CALL FOR A SAFE PEDESTRAIN CROSSING ON BUSY ROAD IN COOPERS EDGE

Over 600 residents of Coopers Edge have signed an online petition calling for the installation of a safe pedestrian crossing on Lobleys Drive – a busy road in the heart of the development.

The road has become a ‘rat run’ for not just residents but people commuting to work in the business park and further afield.  It is especially busy in the mornings just as local children head to the nearby Coopers Edge School.

Local County Councillor Robert Vines has presented the petition to Dom Morris, the Cabinet Member responsible for Highways issues at the county council.

The petition was launched by local resident Alison Peeters. She said: “Each day, school children, the elderly, local residents and the disabled brave a gruelling journey across this busy road. This places our most vulnerable population in unnecessary danger. The absence of a crossing is indeed personal to many in Coopers Edge including myself, as we worry daily about the safety of our children and elderly while getting to school or simply crossing the road”.

Hucclecote Parish Council also supports the call for a crossing. “There are now plans to build a small convenience store near the junction of Typhoon Way and Lobleys Drive, so this will generate more pedestrian traffic and could increase the risk of a serious accident,” said Parish Chair Brenda Bentley.
